UCIT (Ireland) Ltd recently approved investment funding of €200k towards the development of a major extension to the community owned Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre in Bailieboro, Co. Cavan.
The Swimming & Leisure Centre opened in June 1999 having been built at a cost of around £1.1 million. The facility has been a continual progressive success. As a consequence of local community support for over four years prior to opening, the centre was debt free within months of opening for business. It belongs to the community and is overseen by a Board elected locally. The Centre's facilities are enjoyed by many, from a wide catchment area stretching into Monaghan and Meath, providing service to all sections of society.
The demand for leisure facilities required a physical expansion to accommodate gym activities, staff rooms and studio space for groups with particular needs. The extension will enhance the range of activities available, as well as raising the standard of accommodation for clients and staff. All the community have access at reasonable rates almost every day of the year for 14/15 hours per day (07.00 – 22.00).
