International Social Enterprise Example - Apopo Print E-mail

Apopo is a social enterprise that trains sniffer rats to detect explosives and diagnose diseases for humanitarian purposes, which include detecting landmines and diagnosing Tuberculosis.

APOPO currently employs over 200 staff for  in-country operations, and has over 300 rats in various stages of breeding, training, or implementation. Their African giant pouched rats are important members of the team, and the driving force behind a life-saving mission. They are referred to as HeroRATs.

Why you might ask, do they use Rats? Well the only other alternative would be dogs!, but to see the scientific reasoning check out this Belgian Social Enterprise's wesbite www.apopo.org
