If you ever have reason to be in the Dunfanaghy area of Donegal, either on business by yourself, or touring with the family, be sure to pay the guys in The Workhouse Museum a visit. The original Workhouse was restored and opened in 1995 as a Heritage Centre and indeed valuable community resource.
It's another example of a community based facility that has something for everyone. From small beginnings the Workhouse now comprises a coffee shop specialising in home baking, a craft shop focussed on Donegal produce, a community playground and Toddler Park. To ensure educational value, the Wee Hannah exhibition provides the story of a survivor of the famine who lived in the Workhouse. Increasing in popularity are the summer schemes for children together with an after schools programme and craft classes running at Halloween, Christmas, Easter and during Heritage Week. If you are spending some time in that part of the world, the Workhouse has a dedicated desk fro information on the Sheephaven Bay area. There is also free internet access and WIFI if you prefer to bring your own lap top along.
